So recently, I had discovered the service called Turo (formerly RelayRides). Basically it is like Airbnb, but for cars! People rent out their personal vehicles and you can choose from some interesting vehicles. I ended up with a manual mini cooper S with leaking oil and bald tires, but it was still fun and worth it. Anyways, they just added a transmission choice to the search options! So I will definitely be researching my next trip on there.

I think I’m just going to rent some of these cars for fun.

Id consider that more if the cars had higher mileage limits. 100-200 miles a day is totally useless if I am driving around for fun. That works if I am just driving point A to point B. But I could easily drive 300-400 in a day if I am intentionally taking the long way to enjoy a car.

This sounds like a great way to make money while someone destroys your clutch.

Right Foot Down’s owner just rented a new Miata out in CA that way. Article in progress. :)

yeah driving that Mini in San Francisco probably didn’t do great things for the clutch. I tried to be gentle but those hills are difficult. I have NO hills in NJ, so I have almost no experience with hill starting. I only stalled once though and that was because the tires had no tread and would spin on all of the steep hills. I am used to RWD so spinning front tires just confuse me.

Clutches? We don’t need no steenkin’ clutches. We don’t have to show you no clutches.

I used the service to get a Chevy Volt to go visit mom. There is an S2000 on offer. I just might get that for the next time.

I considered signing up awhile ago (before they changed to the dumb name), but they wanted a full report of my driving history in every state I’ve had a license in the past 5 years. You have to pay to get a report from the local DMV and have it sent to them directly... it wasn’t worth the cost, even if it meant I could rent something more interesting for the same price.
Glad to hear it’s been a good experience for others, though!

Under “Transmission” there should just be an option for “N/A."

The best option on Turo/RelayRides is to include vehicles with bike racks! Makes renting bikes and renting cars at the same time so much cheaper.

Huh, all they needed from me was my drivers license. That sounds nuts to have to do all of that!

Haha it really took me a few seconds to figure it out. That is great. Especially since it came up under manual.

I figured as much. Just busting chops. At least you have a lot of off roading options down there.

While someone could definitely prove me wrong, its pretty difficult to effectively off road in a Miata lol. There is nothing of value for me in South Jersey in terms of interesting driving. Last summer I was out in PA, NW Jersey, and NY quite often just to go driving on something more interesting. Hence how I ended up putting 25k+ miles in one year on the car!

I feel your pain with miles. I do that in commuting on the GSP

Yeah that sounds a bit worse. I've only got a 15 mile round trip commute. So that really shows how much I drove just for fun lol

It’s all about enjoying life friend and you seems to be hitting all cylinders (bad puns are bad) on that front.

It’s part of the price of moving around fairly frequently, I guess. No big deal.
